Alimony

Another long-term obligation of a spouse during divorce or separation may be to provide short-term or a long term support to a former spouse. This is based on several factors of a former spouse who wish to receive alimony such as: (1) length of marriage; (2) education; (3) ability to gain employment; (4) circumstances leading to divorce; (5) health and age of a spouse; and many other factors. Although, a court may be reluctant to provide a long term support for a spouse, the court may grant an alimony based on its assessment of the facts.
